Animal shelters in the United States euthanize 4-6 million homeless cats and dogs a year. How do we stop this killing of healthy animals? The Rozzie May Animal Alliance sees low-cost spay and neuter clinics and alternative animal housing as the answers.
The Rozzie May Animal Alliance, only in existence for four months, is working to create a unique animal welfare center, that will focus on reducing the number of animals that enter shelters by offering low cost spay and neuter facilities to the community and offering a safe haven for homeless animals. This refuge will commit to the animal residents with animal friendly housing that wil provide a good quality of life while looking for adoptive forever homes.
The first low-cost spay/neuter clinic altered 62 animals in two days, the capital campaign has raised over $100,000, and support for the organization is growing rapidly. The RMAA is an IRS designated 501(c)3 New Hampshire non-profit corporation. All the necessary legal work behind, the RMAA is focusing on Board growth and development.
Carol Bryans, President of the Board of Directors is happy to announce a new Board member and our Advisory Board, “It is great to see people coming together to help make the RMAA a reality,” she said.
Jan Sanborn, the newest member and Secretary of the Board of Directors, is eager to help New Hampshire animals and their humans. She lives in Chocorua with her husband Rick, dog Buffy and two cats, Samuel and Talulah. Jan says, “I am glad to be a part of this much-needed organization for the Tamworth area.” As a Tamworth native she knows the people and area well, and will be a huge asset as the RMAA moves forward. Jan joins other Board members Maxine Cheek, Vice-President, Terri Conlon, Treasurer, and Lindsey Maihos.
The newly formed Advisory Board represents a great variety of knowledge and talent including Joanne Rainville-Tamworth, Robin Gordon -Tamworth, Dave Caputo- Madison, Margarete Stevens-Eaton, Karen Dufault-Effingham, and Heidi Shellmer-Jackson.
Executive Director, Roz Manwaring, says, “The RMAA has such a great team, as seen at our first low-cost spay/neuter clinic in September. Volunteers came together and helped make the two days incredible. and now, thanks to all these wonderful, caring folks the team is growing in every way! “
Word has it the next low-cost spay and neuter clinic will be January 4, 2008. Please call 447-3477 for information and reservations. The web site is www.rozzimay.org.
