Rozzie May April Auction and Luncheon
Artists and craftspeople have always had close relationships with their animal companions so it is no surprise that works of art will be heading the list of items to be auctioned on Sunday, April 6th at the Stonehurst Manor to benefit the Rozzie May Animal Alliance.
”Roz called me one day and said ‘I’ve got just the dog for you,’ Susan Neet Goodwin said as Tucker, a friendly black lab/retriever mix wagged his tail. “She was right. So I want to do what I can to support the RMAA.”
Susan is a sculptor in clay and will donate three custom made house/street number signs. The pottery signs have faces that peer out from textured clay and a place for greenery. Usually Susan creates a human face for the signs but for the RMAA she is going to experiment with making a feline or canine face to mark your animal loving household.
Susan’s major work is a series called “The Citizens of the World” which are sculptured heads of individuals from around the world, from Aboriginals to Tibetans to a Saami deer herder, all in their traditional dress. After a visit to Madagascar, Susan found herself working with potters there to help them develop pieces to sell to ecotourists. She will be returning to Madagascar this summer to continue the project. You can see more of her work at her website, www.susanneetgoodwin.com
Some of the other craftspeople who have already donated items to the auction include: Sarah Mohla (glass jewelry), Bill Janelle (pedestal table), Harry Fowler (wood bowl), June Kershaw (silver bracelet), Sharyn Ekbergh (silver and 14K gold fill earrings), Sweeney Ridge (hand painted metal work), Betsy Brisbois (hand woven scarf), Pat Gale (felted bags), and the North Country Whittler, Joshua Sargent (carved bear).
The Stonehurst Manor will be hosting a one of a kind buffet luncheon and wine tasting in their elegant setting. Afternoon activities will be under the eagle eye of Auctioneer George Cleveland with drawings for a multitude of mini-raffles and an auction for large items. Tickets for the event are 25.00 each and must be reserved in advance. The website is www.rozziemay.org or call 447-3477.
